PDF Extra launched on the App Store, and to commemorate the iOS release, we thought we’d introduce you to some of the features you can expect to find in the app. PDF Extra is an all-on-one PDF productivity app, so consider this just a snippet.

1. Alter the properties of your signature

The ability to insert a pre-scanned signature as an image has been the go-to way of signing documents in the past. While this is still possible with PDF Extra, the more natural method of signing using handwriting is now the primary way to put your digital ink on a document.

Users can do so with the Fill & Sign feature of the app, but what many will be excited to learn, is that you can now alter the properties of your handwritten signature. This includes the thickness of the lines and their color.

Signature looks too slim and unnatural? Just increase the width. The color of the signature must be blue, or perhaps yellow fits better on your résumé? Simply choose from 18 standard colors or modify the precise hue with a HEX color customizer.

2. Reverse convertibility

There was a time when converting a file to PDF was a real struggle. Naturally, technology advanced and allowed for an easier access to the PDF file extension, yet the focus had always been on converting to, and not from PDF. As an all-in-one PDF productivity app, PDF Extra easily turns DOC, XLS and ePub files into PDF with a couple of taps.

But it also allows for reverse convertibility.

This means that PDF files available on your phone or in the cloud can be converted back to Word-, Excel- and ePub-compatible files. And while PDF Extra has many of the productivity tools included in the aforementioned programs, some users will prefer to work on their files in their original, pre-conversion format. In those cases, the ability to reverse a PDF file will come in handy.

3. File encryption

With all the security issues plaguing the cyberspace, protecting your digital assets has never been so important.

This is why PDF Extra includes the option to protect any PDF file on your phone with a password. As a result, the PDF’s content becomes protected against unwelcome readers, but also unavailable to malicious users who gain access to the file.

This is especially important for files containing sensitive information, such as financial figures, license- and patent-protected material, as well as personal data.

4. Automatic identification of PDF-compatible files

Since PDF Extra is centered on the use of the PDF file extension, the app automatically identifies files, which are subject to conversion to PDF.

This is actually a pretty neat feature.

Let’s say you’ve just received an email with a draft of an important proposal from a colleague. You need to add your part, convert it to PDF, and send it over to a client. By downloading the file on your phone, you are able to immediately find it under the Files menu in PDF Extra, since it is a Word document. This eliminates the need to look up the file on your phone, and makes it easier to just start working on it. The same goes for Excel and ePub files.

5. Free or paid cloud storage

PDF Extra is first and foremost a productivity app. Yes, it’s about PDFs, and the many ways, in which they can be employed to achieve a certain outcome — be it simply to convert to and from PDF, to scan a physical document and digitalize it, or to alter the properties of an image inside a document.

But since office productivity requires disk space, PDF Extra provides a free 5 GB cloud storage bonus to any signed-in user. Premium subscribers get to enjoy an even bigger treat — up to 50 GB of cloud storage.

The logic behind this feature is our belief that your phone should be your personal sanctum. We want you to use your iPhone’s disk space for your own personal life, just like it’s supposed to be. And if you have to work on the go, you will at least not have to compromise your personal disk storage to do so.

These were just 5 of more than 30 features you will find in PDF Extra. We hope you’ll enjoy using the app just as much as we enjoyed creating it for you.
